Human relationships are the focus of my art, especially weakness and power. Often I will use humor in my work, but once a viewer sees past the initial humor a serious topic is revealed. I am inspired by ethics and my religious convictions. My goal is to use my art to coax the viewer into learning a new perspective and viewpoint.

I use clay because it can be so flesh like, and clay is an important part of creation in most cultures. I, too, am creating a creature from the earth, sometimes literally blowing life into my work, as is the case with “Creation Whistles.” Using the traditional medium of ceramics in a new and unusual way excites me. I want my work to appear as though it is living, which I convey by adding senses and dimensions beyond visual to my work, such as sound, smell, and movement.
